Mount Cikuray is one
of the beautiful mountain in west Java. The highest point at 2.818 m above sea
level and from here you can see the good view from the top of the Roof of
Garut. Mount Cikuray is the forth tallest point of West Java, there is a good
number of hiking and climbing in the area, available both for professional and
amateur hiking fans.
Day 1: Jakarta – Cikuray Basecamp – Puncak Bayangan (Post 5)
We gather in Kalideres
Station at 10.00 p.m and transferred to Kp. Rambutan Terminal Bus which takes
about 1 hours, and then we went by bus from Kp. Rambutan Terminal Bus to Garut
which takes about 4-5 hours. In the morning we arrived in Garut and we rest,
breakfast and then prepared to basecamp or Pos Pemancar. To towards basecamp we
went by little truck or vegetable car which are already in front of the Guntur
Terminal. Start trekking a steep climb with almost no
flat trek in a straight lush forest route to Post 5, usually called Puncak
Bayangan or Fake Peak in English. Due to its difficulty, the climbing time may
varies between 3-6 hours depending on your physical fitness. We will set up our
camp at Post 5, have dinner, and stay overnight at the campsite.
Day 2: Post 5 – Cikuray Peak – Cikuray Basecamp – Jakarta
Wake up at 3.30 a.m and we
will start our summit attack at 4am. The climb to the peak takes 45mins-1hr.
From the top, if it’s still dark we can see the sights of the city lights of
Garut, sunrise at 5.30am, then we will have breakfast the top while watching
the ‘Ocean Of Clouds’ forming up below us. At around 10.00 am, we will start
our descend down to the basecamp, and then we went back to Jakarta.
